Contractor Burned in Tank Explosion: Confidential Settlement

Tyson E. Logan and Mel C. Orchard, The Spence Law Firm, LLC, represented a welder who suffered severe burns to over 25% of his body when M & N Equipment, LLC, (an oilfield services company located near the Jonah Gas Field in southwestern Wyoming), provided him a defective gas monitor to test a 400 barrel storage tank. The company requested that the contractor weld the broken tank. He tested the tank for flammable vapors with the company's defective gas monitor and the company's gas monitor confirmed that the tank was safe. As the contractor attempted to weld a crack, the undetected vapors in the tank exploded, swallowing him in a fireball.
