Boiler Tank Explosion Kills Father in Ohio: $5.35 Million Settlement
We obtained a $5.35 million settlement on behalf of the widow and surviving
teenage daughters of a man who sustained grave injuries and burns over
92% of his body. The lawsuit was filed against Columbus Southern Power
Company and American Electric Power. The claims arose from a cyclone-fired
boiler slag tank explosion. Our client was inspecting the boiler when
the tank ruptured and released super-heated steam. We learned that a similar
explosion occurred just a few years earlier at a sister plant. Although
the company retrofitted some of their tanks with safety mechanisms, they
failed to do so on the tank that ultimately killed our client.
