Truck Accident on Wyoming I-80 Kills One, Injures Another

Sep 14, 2011

A fatal semi-truck crash occurred earlier this week in Wyoming. The truck accident occurred on September 10, 2011, ten miles outside of Laramie, Wyoming on Interstate 80, when the truck driver of a semi-tractor trailer rammed into the back of a slower moving Volkswagen van, spinning the van off the road where it rolled two complete times. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the two occupants in the van were ejected, one man was killed in the accident, the other is in intensive care. Both men were volunteers at Mammoth Brewing Co. The driver of the truck told the investigating troopers that he reached for his cell phone to answer it, and when he looked back at the road, the van was right in front of him. According to reports, the truck driver was cited for careless driving.

The Spence Law Firm, LLC litigates against major trucking companies from coast to coast when their negligence injures or kills another motorist. The section of interstate 80 (I-80) through Wyoming is one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the country for motorists. Rear-end collisions often are the result of commercial trucks speeding or driving their tractor-trailers carelessly, especially when they are distracted by cell phones or other electronics. Distracted driving, including texting, cell phone use, and talking on the phone while operating a big rig, pose a serious risk to motorists on the road. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), Wyoming has the highest rate of deaths per population associated with trucking accidents. Drivers and victims families need to be informed about the federal regulations governing federal motor carrier safety, and commercial truck drivers.

The Spence Law Firm has decades of experience representing people injured or killed in truck accidents. Our team of Wyoming trial lawyers – along with a number of commercial truck driving experts, highway safety experts, accident reconstructionists, biomechanical engineers, investigators, and others – litigates against powerful trucking companies to protect the rights of motorists and to obtain compensation for injuries and deaths caused by negligent and reckless truck drivers.
