$27M Award Secured for UFC Star Yoel Romero, Represented by The Spence Law Firm
UFC fighter Yoel Romero is feeling redeemed after a New Jersey court entered a judgement valued at $27.65 million in his favor, concluding a lawsuit he brought against Goldstar Performance Products. Mr. Romero was represented by attorneys Jeffrey S. Craig, of Craig, Annin & Baxter, LLP, Howard L. Jacobs, of the Law Offices of Howard L. Jacobs, and R. Daniel Fleck of The Spence Law Firm, LLC. Attorney Fleck was honored to work alongside the professionalism of Craig and Jacobs on this case. According to the lawsuit, Goldstar laced supplements he used while training with banned substances, but did not include them in the ingredients listing. When Romero was tested for drugs in 2015, he tested positively for the simulated growth hormone ibutamoren, which stripped him of reputability and placed him in suspension, essentially ending his career until further notice.
The lawsuit accused Goldstar of:
- Product liability
- Breach of implied warranties
- Intentional misrepresentation
- Consumer Fraud Act violations
The multimillion damages awarded to Romero are to cover the wages he lost due to being unable to continue competing on professional stages and losing out on future contracts. The damages also include noneconomic damages, such as the emotional distress he has experienced throughout the ordeal and the destruction of his professional reputation. As a leading athlete and silver medal Olympic wrestler, Romero’s talent and abilities alone surely place his professional worth well into the millions. Now with the judgment in place, he is feeling like himself again, no longer stuck under the unfair bias placed above him by Goldstar’s deceptive supplements.
It has been an honor for Attorney Fleck to work with Romero and his full legal team on this high-stakes, far-reaching case. The sports nutrition and supplements industry is worth billions of dollars in revenue each year. Attorney Fleck sees this case victory as a message to the massive companies and conglomerates in the industry that they must always conduct business honestly and in a way that protects consumers, or else serious financial consequences will await them.
